Le
Touquet - via Ferry |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Invented by the British 100 years ago, this lovely seaside resort still has echoes of the good old days when Noel Coward and the smart set from England popped over to relax on the Cote D’Opale. Just 45 miles south of Calais, Le Touquet blends old English charm with French style and makes a perfect day out. With its long romantic promenade and fine sandy beach, here you can hop on free navettes (electric buses) that circle the main streets or enjoy a walk along the fashionable Rue de Metz. Forget booze-cruise
warehouses and instead check out knowledgeable French wine merchants
such as the Cave Touquettoise and pay a visit to one of the excellent
patisseries and bakers shops. Smell whiffy French cheeses at Gerard
Delpierre or buy jars of fish soup from Perard – part fish shop,
part oyster bar, part restaurant along with superb home-made chocolates
at the Chocolaterie de Beussent. Thanks to the rich Parisians who
still come here at weekends, Le Touquet has a reputation as one of
the most elegant holiday resorts of northern France with something
of interest for everyone.
